"Clark's music is right up there with her mentors. Joni, Rickie and Bonnie, move over. Make room for Anni ..." - NEW ENGLAND PERFORMER MAGAZINE
Hello to All! I may have said this before, but isn't it weird how we go from the holiday blur into "OMG, how did the 1st month of the New Year go by already?" Maybe it's weirder this year cos we haven't really had much of a winter here in southern (coastal) Maine. As I flip the calendar, though, I see a lot of really Fun February Features... I'm doing 6 shows in ME & NH this month, one of which falls on Wednesday, Feb. 8th, in Portland at One Longfellow Square... I'll be the featured performer at the monthly Maine Songwriters Association night... a great reason to venture out on Hump Day for some mid-week fun... and that's only for starters... here's what follows, in this order: 1. SHORT LIST (dates, location, time only) 2. TARGET LIST (more details) 3. CURRENT CEREBRAL / SEASONAL WANDERINGS 4. SPONSORS NEEDED! 5. PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE 1. SHORT LIST (dates, location, time only) WED, 2/8 / ONE LONGFELLOW SQUARE / PORTLAND ME / 7PM (Featuring @ Maine Songwriters Association Night @ 8:30) FRI , 2/10 / SARGE'S / SACO ME / 7PM SAT, 2/11 / SHOVEL HANDLE PUB / JACKSON NH / 4:30PM WED, 2/15 / UNITY COLLEGE / UNITY ME / 7PM THURS, 2/23 / SHOVEL HANDLE PUB / JACKSON NH / 4:30PM 2. TARGET LIST (more details) WEDNESDAY / FEBRUARY 8 / ONE LONGFELLOW SQUARE / PORTLAND ME / 7PM / $8 @ the door... I'll be the "spotlight performer" at the monthly Maine Songwriters Association Night. There are 3 other Maine performers doing short sets prior to mine, which starts at about 8:30. I'll play a one hour set, song list subject to change at whim. Always a soulful night at One Longfellow & thus, a very good reason to step out on Hump Day... break up the week, put a dent in that cabin fever thang. I always enjoy hearing what others are writing & checking out performance styles that often inspire new ideas of my own. If you absolutely can not step out that night, you can tune in LIVE via the internet by clicking on this [link]! It costs you $3 to check it out. But DO step out... LIVE in the flesh is always the best. For more info about One Longfellow Square, check out this [link]; for info about the Maine Songwriters Association, go [here]. WEDNESDAY / FEBRUARY 15 / UNITY COLLEGE / UNITY ME / 7PM / 207-948-3131... I try to get up to Unity at least once a year... might be off the beaten path for some, but worth the visit every time. I perform in the very intimate & friendly Student Center... mostly students, but open to the public... & YES! They make good pizzas, salads, calzones, burgers & more... & they pour a very tasty selection of beers & other beverages. The campus is small, the students and faculty are very "green" at heart. My pal Karen shot a video here last year, when I played an Ode to My Guitar called "Fingers" that I wrote after breaking my wrist a few months before the show! Check out Unity College [here]. back to top 3. CURRENT CEREBRAL / SEASONAL WANDERINGS As a Maine native, my world has always revolved around the four seasons. I find these seasonal changes refreshing, with built-in incentives to do different things throughout the year. Certainly, the seasons have inspired many a song. They are an integral part of my heart & soul... they weigh in equally with my musical heart & soul... actually, I think they are intertwined as one if I really think about it. Thus, I always strive to find ways to celebrate the coming of each season in a musical way. In 2012, I will continue to share my seasonal passions: "The Sweet Sounds of... Spring, Summer & Autumn" concerts are becoming annual events now. (I have yet to do a winter show... usually we're all running around in that holiday blur, so I haven't wrapped my mind around that season's solstice yet in regard to a musical celebration... a House Concert maybe? Might help to clear some of the blur...) Anyway, I thought it might be fun to list the shows as a way of having something to look forward to... (especially useful if winter DOES get cold & snowy & LONG... who knows? Perhaps the groundhog?) Barring anything unforeseen, these dates are on my books: APRIL 28 (SAT) - WAYSIDE THEATRE - DEXTER ME (about a month after the Equinox)* "Sweet Sounds of Spring" - (Solo) 7PM *(no heat in this place until April!) JUNE 20 - (WED) - ONE LONGFELLOW SQUARE - PORTLAND ME (7:09PM Solstice!) "Sweet Sounds of Summer" (With the one & only DAN MERRILL!) 7PM OCTOBER 20 (SAT) - BOOTHBAY OPERA HOUSE BOOTHBAY HARBOR ME "Sweet Sounds of Autumn" - yes, this is 4 weeks after the Equinox, yet it's my favorite time of year... usually ripe for "Indian Summer" weather - (Solo) Time TBA - if you would like to be a sponsor for this show, I'll communicate the details of how to do that. (See "sponsor paragraph" below.) Might I suggest you plug these dates into your calendar of possibilities? It's always a great night at any or all of these events... & for ME, it's a fun way to mark the changing of the seasons here in Maine. back to top 4. SPONSORS NEEDED FOR BOOTHBAY OPERA HOUSE SHOW (Oct 20th) First off, I need to thank a couple unnamed A List members who, last month, stepped up to the plate immediately to help as sponsors of my Boothbay Opera House Show (ME) scheduled for October 20th this year. Out of a needed $700 (costs went up $100 since my last show) I have about $300 left to find in sponsorship monies. The $700 allows me to use the beautiful upstairs venue where I have done 3 shows in recent years. It pays for lights, heat & staff to man the bar & prep the room before & after the show. I do my own advertising for this, but they do put me on their calendar. I love this venue so much, I go out on a limb to make it happen... apparently others feel the same way or they would not help me raise the funds to rent the space. If you'd like to help, shoot me an email [here]. Thanks!! Wishing all of you a Fabulous Fun & Funky February... if I may be a tad selfish, I hope part of your funkiness includes a stop at one of my gigs this month. Wishing y'all a lovely Valentine's Day as well... if your heart is lonely this year, write a song... the lonely / angry ones usually come pretty easy. Send me the lyrics... I'd love to read 'em! Oh, and the sweet songs, too... send them if you'd like to share them. Whatever you do, travel safely & remember I am ever thankful for your staying in tune with me... Peace,
